Are You Eating Your Skin Better?

When you or someone you care for is coping with acne, it sometimes seems that this is a problem that will never go away. If you are currently taking good care of your skin and taking care to not to touch any blemishes with your hands, you may want to take a good look at what you’re eating.

While the old myths that have been around forever about greasy foods and chocolate being bad for the skin are pretty much false, there are some foods that will trigger a breakout. You will need to take a little time to think about your diet and how it may be affecting your acne.

One thing that you may want to avoid is milk, especially if you are a teenager. Since acne is triggered by changes in the hormones, it makes sense to avoid milk since it contains certain hormones. If you just put some milk in a bowl of cereal you will probably not have any problems, but you shouldn’t drink more than a glass of milk every day or so.

Another thing that you might want to do to stop acne in its tracks is to consider putting more fish into your diet. Fish and fish oil are good for your skin and it has been discovered that they can help you prevent acne as well. Cod, tuna, and salmon are great when you are thinking about getting more Omega-3 fats in your diet and you will find that there are also plenty of supplements out there that can help as well. Remember that this is a fat that you can always stand to have more of.

When you are thinking about a good diet to help you fight acne, don’t forget the role that water might play in it. Water will help you flush out your skin while helping your body process both nutrients and toxins more effectively.

Drinking plenty of water will help your existing blemishes heal fast and without scarring and this can be essential. Take a moment to consider how you are going to be able to move forward to get more water in your day. Some people will simply carry large bottles with them, while other people will stop to drink at water fountains whenever they pass them by.

There are a number of supplements that will help you as well. We covered the use of fish oil supplements above, but you will find that vitamin A and vitamin B5 are helpful too. Similarly, vitamin E can be ingested or taken externally and it is terrific for your skin. Similarly, zinc can reduce acne as well, and you can find it in mushrooms, whole grains, and eggs.

Keep in mind that healthy eating will help you fight acne so take some time to really think about what you are going to eat.
