Are Your Vitamins Still Working? Understand What Your Body is Telling You.

During my years of consumer research and exploration of health and wellness I noted a curious pattern emerge. The various health regimes I adopted, whether vitamins, super green foods, Chinese herbs, or homeopathic remedies, seemed to stop working.

My commitment and discipline were not lacking, I simply felt after a period of time the health benefits were no longer evident to me. I did understand that the body’s ability to absorb and utilize key nutrients could be a factor in the difference I noticed. At the top of my game I was on a regime of fresh frozen super greens delivered in ice packs and a patented stack of organic amino acids for anti-aging.

Boy, I was really feeling great, even though dealing with the frozen greens was a bit of a hassle and admittedly disturbed my harmonious feelings. Well the day finally came when the super greens were no longer needed and I only took the amino acids during times of extreme physical demand, such as our yearly ski trip.

My experience with alternative and complementary medicines were similar to that of vitamin supplementation and diet. Whether it be acupuncture, chiropractic or various types of body work, I would clearly “hit a ceiling” when I instinctively knew I had gained the maximum benefit and it was time to move on.

It can be discouraging to experience health benefits and healing for a time and then seemingly stop getting the same results you once did. Rather than be disappointed, this may be a clue that your body has done everything it possibly can with your present health regime. It is very likely that you have made progress with your health and healing regimen, and you can be reassured that your body’s innate intelligence will lead you to the next step, as needed.

Some holistic practitioners will test their patients each visit to determine what their body’s priority needs are at the time. In other words, allowing the body’s intelligence to be the guide for the next step in healing. In some cases certain imbalances may need to be addressed before your body can absorb and utilize your vitamin supplements.

The body’s unique intelligence is always at work seeking a state of harmony. You may be drawn to certain foods for a month; this is your body’s way of signaling that for any number of reasons you have a particular nutritional need at this time.

Demanding lifestyles and age will likely determine how you vary your health regimen. Since the early days of my health exploration the entire wellness industry has progressed in the most remarkable ways. With progress has come countless choices for vitamins and health products.

The technological and scientific advances in testing are mapping out our unique nutritional and hormonal needs. The genomic sciences have ushered in a whole new way of how we choose preventative health products.

This of course does not take into consideration your lifestyle, but DNA assessments can map out your predisposition for certain diseases. The scientific breakthroughs are pointing us to genes and lifestyle, and the good news is we can now do something about both. Due to scientific research we see the Biggest Trends in vitamins are those supplements that target:

* Bone density, ligament and joint health

* Cardiovascular

* Cognitive and Mental Function

* Immune System

* Energy and Performance

* Healthy aging products in general, including Skin Health

* Sleep and Anxiety

* Libido

While science continues to make new breakthroughs, your body will continue to use it’s own innate intelligence to heal itself. Modify your health regimen in order to reach your desired goals, avoid staying with one approach if you are not reaching your desired outcome. The core of “complementary” medicine is to supply what is lacking in order to complete it. I highly recommend adopting the “complementary” approach so that you can avoid getting stuck in a rut or find yourself chasing one regimen or product after another.
