Benefits of Restylane

Restylane has a lot of benefits. It offers a more youthful appearance without an encroaching or time-consuming procedure! A lot of people don’t see that it can also be a very effective lip enhancement product. It gives definition and volume to lips, and brings a pronounced “pout.”

Hyaluronic acid, the primary ingredient of Restylane, is a natural sugar compound and the second largest component of human skin next to collagen. It has been harnessed to become one of the hottest new cosmetic procedures. Restylane can hold 1,000 times its own weight in water, which allows it to rejuvenate substantial volume in wrinkles and lines of the skin.

Restylane is also more affordable and takes much less time – usually the treatments are done in less than an hour at a dermatologic facility or doctor’s office. The patient can return home shortly after the procedure to enjoy a younger looking face.

Another benefit of a filler treatment is that, when done correctly, the results are completely natural looking and last a long time, sometimes six months or more. Some doctors and patients report that successive treatments in the same spot produce longer lasting results than just one.

Though Restylane has been used and tested all over Europe since the early part of the last decade, the FDA didn’t approve it until 2003. So, even though it’s been tested in the United States for safety as a cosmetic procedure, there are few definitive studies about its expected effects on people who are pregnant, breastfeeding, under the age of 18, and those who are prone to keloid formation or hypertrophic scarring.

So what are the risks? There is risk with any external substance being injected into the human body, no matter how many times it has been tested or “natural” it might be. Though there are not many reported, some of the most common side effects or “downsides” of Restylane include swelling, redness, itching, tenderness and bruising at the injection site.
