Dry Skin – Natural Cures

Dry skin is a problem for many people, just like oily skin can be. Normal healthy skin is coated with a thin layer of natural lipids, or fatty substances.  They keep the moisture in, leaving the skin soft and supple.

What do you do to stop the dry skin problem?

We can’t change many things about our environment, but we can use some very powerful natural ingredients to counter the effects of dry skin.

Don’t use harsh soap or wear irritating clothing. Over use of moisturizer won’t help either. Avoid long, hot showers. Medical conditions like diabetes, psoriasis, hypothyroidism, and malnutrition can also skin problems.

Nutrient deficiencies of vitamins “E, B, A,” will all cause dry skin in most people. Problems like eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis are all results of Vitamin deficiencies. This lower supply of oil to the skin through the oil glands, results in dry and flaky skin.

It’s very common to have very dry skin in the winter, due to dryer air and a lack of circulation. People don’t usually exercise as much in cold months and exercise is the very thing that helps promote better blood flow, which provides better nourishment to the skin.

Lower your alcohol consumption and drink fewer products with caffeine. These contribute to your skin drying out and especially in the dryer climates. Use Aloe Vera gel after you bath and once or twice during the day on the driest parts of your body. Aloe Vera is a great natural cure for dry skin, but your diet must also be helping too.

Eat fruits and vegetables that are rich in Vitamin A. Vitamin A are readily available from many food sources. It can be obtained from food in two different forms; pre-formed vitamin A, found in animal sources, and pro-vitamin A from plant sources. Foods like: liver, sweet potatoes, carrots, mangoes, spinach, cantaloupe, dried apricots, milk, egg yolks, and mozzarella cheese, all have Vitamin A.

Vitamin B foods are Liver, Beer, Tuna, Oats, Turkey, Brazil nuts, Bananas, Potatoes, Avocados Legumes, and Kefir.

Include oily fish in your diet, like salmon.

If you don’t eat enough of these foods rich in Vitamin B, then you may have to supplement your intake with quality vitamins.

I mentioned exercise earlier and it is a huge factor in the quality of your skin health. Exercise helps the blood circulate better and increased blood flow will help assure the nutrients get to your skin and provide the necessary oils for healthy skin.

Dry skin is extremely common for all of the reasons I mentioned, but your healthy skin is your body’s primary defense against infection and is your skin is your largest organ.

If you don’t take care of your skin, it may lead to dermatitis, which is the inflammation of the skin. Swelling and infection could also take place. In reality, most causes of dry skin are external and most cures for dry skin can be treated externally.  By following these dry skin care tips, you can usually get your skin back in shape and feel better soon.
