Is It Really Possible That Your Anti Aging Products Are Damaging Your Health?

Ralph Nader has said that “Over the last 100 years, the rate of cancer in the U.S. has sky-rocketed from 1 out of 800 people diagnosed, to 1 out of 3 today. Are you Wondering why?” Is it possible the reason is that so many ingredients found in anti aging skin care products, cosmetics and other personal products could be dangerous?

There’s no doubt that many of the ingredients found in so many personal products including skin care products that we use on our skin today are suspect or dangerous. This isn’t confined to the skin care or personal products industries, it is true of so many of the products that we use today including many we eat.

Mineral oil is a fine example of an ingredient that you may see if you look on the label of many big brand anti aging products. Avoid it.

Mineral oil is a byproduct of the distillation of crude oil and is therefore a petrochemical product. If you buy baby oil you’re buying pure mineral oil, sometimes with a fragrance added to it.

You’ll find mineral oil in many personal, anti aging and skin care products and cosmetics and other products. It used in anti aging products as a moisturiser however mineral oil has no moisturising properties. It’s there because it forms a thin film of oil on your skin and that film prevents moisture loss. This works to some degree.

You may have heard of Material Safety Data Sheets. These list all information that someone using a particular chemical ought to know, including safety information. If you read a Material Safety Data Sheet about mineral oil it will say that “mineral oils are suspected carcinogens of the skin and scrotum, larynx, lung and alimentary tracts”. And you will also find that it says that mineral oil may “cause eye, skin and respiratory tract irritation”. On top of this will also say that “pre-existing skin disorders may be aggravated by exposure” to mineral oil.

So mineral oil cause cancer and skin conditions.

That’s one of very many ingredients that you may find listed on the label of a bottle of skin care products or anti aging products that you may have on the shelves right now and may have even used this morning. How can it be that there are products available for everyone to buy that contain ingredients that are potentially dangerous?

The FDA isn’t required to protect us. It’s not their job to test how well anti aging products work or how safe they are for us to use. And of course big companies are known for their concern about the well-being of their customers. A fine example is the cigarette companies. If the company is allowed to use these ingredients then it will.

These ingredients are commonly used because they’re cheap. Cheaper ingredients means more profit. There’s excellent ingredients that they could use which are well known to promote better skin health but they’re more expensive.

However some clever people have seen an opportunity here and have started small skin care and anti aging companies that produce excellent quality products, however because they put their money into product quality they cannot afford to advertise and compete on price. So you’ll most likely never hear about them.

Through my website I try and inform readers about the risks of so many ingredients in anti aging products and the point them towards these small niche companies.
