Let’s Talk Curly Haircuts

It’s the same old story with curly girls. We get so bored with our hair we could scream. Cute short hair beckons. But finding the courage (and the stylist) to pull it off, well, that scares us to death!

Understandable dilemma.

I too was tired of trying to look sexy. Cute sounded good. But short curly hair is off the charts unpredictable.

Curly haircuts. Believe it or not there is really not a lot to say about them. Curly hair is curly hair. Get it cut right and it won’t frizz or wedge out on your into a mushroom shape. Which is sometimes easier said than done however.

Granted there is no particular style per se, but there are some things to keep in mind here.

For example, the best naturally curly haircuts are layered. This is especially true if the style is longer. That’s because Christmas tree head awaits cuts without layers. And who needs that?

Layers can also apply for shorter cuts though too. Like say a curly bob. A bit of layering can cut out some of the excess volume making it more easily managed at the same time.

Of course some would declare the bob as the best hair cut for curly hair as it’s got bounce, is light and low maintenance. Three appealing features. So it’s a fun, flirty carefree look. And don’t forget you’ll probably only need one box of color, it dries faster, and is easy to style. In other words what’s not to like?

Besides it’s flexible. Straightening it once or twice a week is good as long as you have a hot enough styling iron. Which gives you another styling option – even if it isn’t completely hassle free. Just do not ignore the need to use heat protectant products to prevent your hair from being fried.

Yet if you’ve been cursed with a poor cut, your curly bob can leave you looking like a walking q-tip. Not the desire affect. Plus such a cut often doesn’t leave enough length for updo hairstyles. Although some may be able to pull enough hair together for a bit of a pony tail. If not, there’s always headbands.

Even if you ignore all the other curly hair cutting tips don’t ignore this one. Drastic changes in length is not always best. Once your hair is cut short you’re going to have short hair for awhile. But were you to take it slow, you can always cut more off down the road.

Still it’s true what they say. When it comes to hairstyle ideas, the proper cut can transform your curls from boring or unruly to truly amazing.
