Making Your Own Calendula Ointment

Flowers are not just there for decoration. It can also be used for healing and creating natural remedies just like the Calendula. This flora actually has a high amount of anti-oxidants called flavonoids which can help your skin be protected from free radicals. Moreover, it also promotes wound healing and promoting dry skin at the same time. Below are the steps to follow if you would like to make your own calendula ointment.

• Get at least half a cup of dried petals of calendula and put it aside in a small bowl.
• Melt at least 10 ounce of vegetable shortening then add a tablespoon of beeswax. If you can’t find a vegetable shortening, ask for the Cream C since it is more popular in this name.
• To create your DIY calendula, put in the petals to the Cream C and beeswax mixture. Just let the petals immerse in the said mixture. Press the petals at the sides of the saucepan so you would let loose of the natural properties that are present in the flower.
• Let it cool and repeat the procedure again and again until the petals are already crumbled.
• Prepare a small clean jar. Make sure that it is completely dry before pouring in the mixture.
• Let it cool before placing the lid or any cover at the jar.

Once the calendula ointment has already cooled down, you may now start using it on your skin. Lather it gently on areas affected by skin irritation, eczema, psoriasis and many others. And since this is remedy made from 100 percent natural ingredients, you can even use it on kids whenever they get insect bites. This would prevent them from itching and scratching the bite. Those who have dry feet can also lather the DIY calendula at night and cover it using a sock as well.
