Why People Choose to Get a Tummy Tuck
It seems that every time you turn on the entertainment channel, the host is invariable discussing which celebrity has recently had a tummy tuck. This phenomenon has contributed to our society’s fascination with this procedure. Because of this fascination, we are going to elaborate on why people choose to undergo this surgery.
By far, the largest group of people having this procedure today is women (although men are beginning to have this surgery more). The reason women usually have this surgery is to remove the excess skin they have from a pregnancy.
The unfair fact is that regardless of how many children a woman has, a pregnancy is likely to impact her body in the long term (from an aesthetic perspective). Because the skin is stretched out so dramatically during pregnancy, it often does not retract back to its prior state.
Despite a woman’s attempt to properly exercise and follow a sound nutritional plan, usually the only way for the woman to eliminate the sagging excess skin is to have a tummy tuck.
Besides pregnancy, significant weight loss is another reason people (this is the category most men will usually fall in) will need to have this surgery.
Due to an enormous amount of weight loss, a tummy tuck candidates skin is never able to fully retract back to its previous state. As a result, the only way to remove the excess skin is to have it removed during a tummy tuck.
The last reason that we are going to discuss today is due to aging. Believe it or not, as we age, our abdominal skin loses some of its elasticity and begins to sag. As a result, more and more tummy tuck consultations are being scheduled because of this reason.
For those of us who are more physically fit oriented, this is a fate that we will try to prevent at all costs. Unfortunately, as we are unable to truly reverse the aging process, a tummy tuck may only be a temporary reprieve for these folks.
As we have shown above, there are three main reasons why people choose to undergo a tummy tuck. If you happen to fall into any of these categories, you may want to schedule a consultation with a cosmetic surgeon to see if they can provide any relief.
