To put it up, you pull your sides back with bobby pins. Or you could do a half pony tail by pulling your sides back with a scrunchy or clip.

use hair gell and toss it around or tease it a little then pull the hair section up then let some of it loosen and tie it with knots inside the hair
i think she may be using a 'banana clip' type hair styler… idk what they are called now-a-days… but it looks like how the 80's banana clips made hair look
