How Can I Make My Wavy Hair Look Like This(pic Included)?

Okay so I have what I think to be pretty unmanageable hair. Its wavy, it poofs on occasion, and it's just not pretty. The only way I really know to style it and make it look decent is to straighten it. On the other days I just put it up.

So basically what I want to know is how do I get my hair to look more tame like this:

An option with the least amount of heat would be preferable so I don't majorly damage my hair.

Suggestion:

I don't know if you have wet straightners, but if you do; wash your hair, then straighten it straight away while combing/brushing it and then wrap big chunks of your hair around the straightener, hold for a few minutes, then let go.
If you don't have wet straighteners, then either blowdry it first, or towel dry it, then brush it and wait till it dries.
