Bellybutton piercing is all the rage among young people. Bellybutton rings create a real fashion statement, especially when wearing low slung hipster pants and cute little short tops.
Not every bellybutton is suited to being pierced, so it is a good idea if you check yours out in the mirror before deciding to go ahead. Will it be visible in the clothes you wear? Is it going to irritate you by rubbing on your clothing? Does you bellybutton look good enough to be shown off?
It is best to have your bellybutton piercing done at a reputable salon to avoid the possibility of infection. Only go to an experienced specialist who works in a clean environment; it would be great if you can use someone who has been recommended by a friend who had their piercing done there. Check to make sure they use sterilized or single-use equipment so there is no chance of cross-contamination.
Choose a plain bellybutton ring when you have the piercing done; these are easier to keep clean and free from infection. You shouldn’t try to change the ring for another one before the piercing site has completely healed; this could be 2 or 3 weeks, so be patient.
It is important to apply some antiseptic solution to your piercing every day after your shower or bath. First dry the area thoroughly and then turn the ring several times to work the antiseptic into the wound and to prevent it sticking. Be conscientious with this procedure and you should avoid any problems; your piercing will heal faster too.
Check the piercing site for any signs of redness; this could indicate the start of an infection, so you should check it with your health professional. If you notice the wound weeping or any pus around the site, this indicates an infection is there, so see your doctor straight away.
When the piercing site has healed you are able to take the ring out if you want to change it for a different one. Important note: leave this as long as you can to make it easier to get a ring back into the piercing hole. A great idea is to leave the ring in place and get yourself some little charms to hang from it. This is a great way of having lots of changes without having to hassle about taking the bellybutton ring out.
Bellybutton rings come in a wide variety of shapes and styles. Whether you like sparkling stones, cute charms or funky colors, you are sure to be able to find wonderful jewellery to adorn your bellybutton piercing.
