Holiday Gift Guide – This Year, It’s Personal

In Today’s world of advanced technology, mass produced cards and gifts from a big-box retailer just won’t cut it anymore. There are millions of online retailers offering one-of-a-kind personalized gift options far beyond the typical monogramed towel that will mean much more to that special someone on your list.

Personalized photo gifts have enjoyed incredible growth over the last decade thanks to the mainstream adoption of the digital format. Because of this, personalized cards, photo mugs and mousepads have become staple family gifts. But new photo treasures are popping up almost everyday.

The next big thing is custom photo jewelry. Many online retailers offer a variety of very nice silver pieces for everyone:

- For Her: Cocktail rings, charm bracelets, pendants, broaches, etc…

- For Him: photo cufflinks, buckles, keychains, etc…

Most of the sites offer a variety of silver settings in almost every shape and size. You submit your photo and any cropping or coloring instructions, and the piece is handcrafted and delivered directly to you. Most handle the entire process through their sites, and the ordering process takes just a few minutes. Delivery usually ranges from one to two weeks; very reasonable for a quality personalized gift.

But beware; not all photo jewelry is created equal. Some of the sites we’ve found out there use inferior or semi-permanent techniques to insert your photo that will fade with time or simply dissentigrate when exposed to water, and that’s not much better than your grandmother’s old locket.

Thankfully, most reputable sites do use a high-quality sealing process that will protect your photo jewelry from the water and harmful UV rays. Most use a resin type product that hardens like glass so you can wear the piece swimming, sunning or shopping without worrying.

Now what about the cost? A one-off piece of silver jewelry created just for you; handmade and delivered to your door. Sounds expensive, right? Not hardly. While we have certainly found sites pricing pieces well north of $100, there are sites that offer quality pieces at $60 dollars or less. In fact, there are custom photo jewelry pieces out there for almost any budget.

The choice is yours. Give your loved one the obviously-purchased-last-minute gift card from the mall, or for the same price, give them a thoughtful personal piece of jewelry that will last a lifetime. Which one do you think is more thoughtful?

You be the star at this years holiday gathering, and let your no-good brother-in-law go with the lame gift card this time.
