How Many Hats Do You Own?

You probably are not familar with the various names of all the different hat styles you see at the hat shops. While the world of fashion is naturally an evolving one, there are certain styles that seem enduring. The following is a brief summary of the most recent styles in hats, along with traditionally popular designs.

Cowboy hats remain popular with more than just cowboys. A lot of folks who enjoy country and western themes favor cowboy or western hats too. Today this style is not the sole province of males; plenty of females can be seen wearing vibrant, imagine a red hat western style.

Top hats are an appealing option as well, typically worn at formal affairs like marriage ceremonies and formal dances. You are even starting to see females sporting top hats; however they typically feature floral decoration, lace or other decor.

In the 1800s, the sailor hat or boater premiered. This style has a straight brim and is stiffly shaped, constructed of straw, adorned with a ribbon band and with a flat top. While it’s not as common as it once was, many children and women still wear it today.

The bowler hat was originally introduced to shield a person’s head while riding a horse, and so was constructed of hard felt. Modern women and children still enjoy wearing this hat.

The fedora hat was originally a men’s hat, but has now become a fashion accessory for women. Modern women wear fedoras plain or ornately decorated with bows, ribbons, or tule. Men also wear fedoras, but usually don’t decorate them.

And don’t leave out the baseball cap which is a traditional old standby. These are nearly a universal staple due to their versatility and wide array of options as far as color, design and so on.

Regardless of your style, there is a hat available to match it. When you’re dressing formally, or going for a casual look, or even covering up a “bad hair day” – anytime is the right time for a hat.
