While selecting wedding rings may seem like a final purchase in symbolizing a couple’s love and commitment, they aren’t always the final ring in the set. Just as there are different styles and designs of wedding rings, so are there also a wide variety of eternity rings that are added onto the wedding rings at a later date.
Although often considered to be the same ring, anniversary rings are usually a gift given from a husband to a wife specifically on an anniversary, while eternity rings are often given at Christmas or other special occasions. Often anniversary rings are given on a special anniversary such as a milestone anniversary, although anytime after the couple has exchanged wedding rings is a possibility.
Since most couples aren’t thinking far into the future when selecting wedding rings and engagement rings, anniversary rings and eternity rings are designed to compliment almost any style of traditional or custom designed bridal set. In some cases the women’s bridal rings, if sold in a set, may also include a matching eternity ring.
When wedding rings are ornate or very detailed, the eternity or anniversary rings can be rather elegant and simplistic in style. They are generally of the same color or type of metal as the wedding bands and rings, making a dramatic and beautiful presentation.
There are several styles of both eternity and anniversary rings. A very popular style is a half eternity ring which includes a channel style setting and several medium to smaller sized diamonds or other precious or semi-precious stone, typically in keeping with the gems on the wedding rings.
Unlike full eternity rings, half eternity rings can be easily sized since the diamonds only cover the front half of the ring. They are also very comfortable to wear with wedding rings since the stones are flush with the surface and don’t protrude to rub or pinch.
While some women may elect to wear the eternity ring as a third ring with the wedding rings, it is also possible to replace the wedding band itself with the typically more ornate eternity or anniversary ring.
Eternity rings replacing the wedding band is a wonderful way to update your wedding rings without completely replacing the set. Since they do coordinate well with wedding rings of a variety of styles this is a great option and a wonderful anytime gift.
