What's a Good Hairstyle for Short-ish Hair? Plz Help!?

I'm going on a date tonight. My hair used to be really long but Yesterday I cut it into a short, mid-neck length style What's a good hairstyle? Would curls look too cherub-like, or would an updo look to severe? Also, will my boyfriend tolerate my much shorter hair or will he be upset?

Suggestion:

As far as your boyfriend goes if he is that upset about your hair that he cant see that it will grow back out then maybe you need to cut him. It shouldn't matter how your hair is if he's really into you. Depending on where you are going I wouldn't do the curls unless you plan on pulling the front back or maybe even doing a messy updo. An updo, however, would look really cute if you did a messy updo. But whatever you do dont try to do a really polished updo because that would look to severe.
