What Type of Hairstyles Did Swedish Women Wear?

I am playing a swedish girl within the age range of 17-23 and I am trying to find traditional swedish hair do's to do my hair in and I can't seem to find one. My hair is shoulder length and have short side bangs…any ideas? If you have a website reference that would be awesome!! Thanks!!

The answer depends very much on the setting: is she a country or a city girl? What social class? What type of outfit will you be wearing?

Most of the examples I found were from paintings by artists such as Carl Larsson or Anders Zorn, both working in the relevant time setting. Their women all seem to wear their in some form of braided tight bun or milkmaid braid (across the top of the skull). Unmarried young women of that age might also have a braid hanging down their back. Remember, already at 17 you would be adult enough to get married.

If it's an upper class city girl, she'd probably follow the late Victorian fashion, you'll likely find some ideas from the Costume Gallery below.
